Dunure

The Coig - The Shire

The picturesque fishing village of Dunure sits on the South Ayrshire coast and boasts a shingle beach, small harbour and the cliff top ruins of Dunure Castle. After exploring the area on foot, why not stop off for a picnic at one of the many scenic spots? Head to the nearby A719 road and you'll think you're seeing things! The fascinating optical illusion at the Electric Brae, or gravity hill, gives the impression that cars freewheeling downhill are actually going uphill.  It's a real head scratcher.
